A large fire is spreading on the eastern outskirts of Rome causing columns of smoke that can be seen from the center of the capital and some buildings have had to be evacuated.
According to a first reconstruction, the flames began at 5:30 p.m. in bush areas next to Palmiro Togliatti avenue and then reached at least one of the car wrecks present on nearby Tuscolana street.
Some citizens have heard some explosionsreported the local media and in the area there are teams of firefighters and also of the Carabineros, police and agents of the Local Police.
In the photographs distributed by the citizens it is seen that the fire is located very close to the inhabited areas of the Centocelle and Cinecitta neighborhoods.
So far no one has been injured, but the smoke has reached Fadda Street and the inhabitants of several buildings were evacuated.
The president of the V municipality, Mauro Caliste, affirmed that the fire is spreading due to the strong wind and that “the situation is dramatic”.
All citizens were advised to keep their windows closed and wear masks also on the street in the area affected by the dense cloud of smoke.
Lazio’s health adviser, Alessio D’Amato, explained that all hospitals in Rome have been alerted to the possibility of patients arriving with respiratory problems.
Due to serious inconveniences related to the cloud of smoke from the fire, the section of the Togliatti highway between the intersection with via Papiria and via Casilina is closed.
