The Russian frigate Admiral Gorshkov docked in the Richards Bay port in South Africa to participate in the joint naval exercises between the Navies of Russia, China and the African countrywhich will last until next Monday.
In that port on the Indian Ocean coast, sailors from the North Sea Fleet participated in a ceremony dedicated to the celebration of the South African Armed Forces Day before participating in the tripartite maritime maneuvers, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported.
The frigate received a visit from the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Nikolai Yevmenovwho arrived in South Africa the day before to supervise the exercises.

These maneuvers will focus on tasks to counter “threats to security at sea” and in “the disposition of the forces of the fleets to jointly maintain regional peace and stability,” stressed the Ministry of Defense.
In addition, there will be sports competitions between Russian sailors and their counterparts from the South African and Chinese naval forces.
Early last week the Russian ship called at the port of Cape Town, on the Atlantic coast, to restock on drinking water and food, before visiting the port of Durban, on the Indian Ocean coast.
Previously the frigate, equipped with Tsirkon hypersonic missilesconducted training in the Atlantic Ocean to prepare for exercises with the South African and Chinese navies.

The naval exercises will take place in waters off the cities of Durban and Richards Bay.
The naval forces of the three countries already carried out joint exercises in November 2019 in the southwestern city of Cape Town.
The maneuvers will be carried out coinciding with the first anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, started on February 24, 2022.
