The general secretary of United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterresmet this Wednesday in kyiv with the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenskyto “look for solutions” that allow reaching the final objective of a “just peace”according to what the first said in statements to the press.
“The sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine must remain within its internationally recognized borders,” Guterres said at the start of the meeting.
“Our ultimate goal is equally clear, a just peace based on the UN Charter, international law and the recent General Assembly resolution which marks one year since the start of the war,” he added.
Gutérres pointed out that until it is possible to achieve this goal, the UN will continue to strive to mitigate the impact of conflict both for the Ukrainian population and globally.
In this regard, he recalled that the initiative of the broker for the ukrainian cereal through the Black Sea has made it possible to transport 23 million tons of grainreducing the global price of food and offering “crucial relief” to those in other regions of the world “also pay a high price for war,” he stressed.
Gutérres, who undertook his third trip to kyiv on Tuesday since the war began to address, among other issues, the prolongation of the grain agreement, indicated that the Ukrainian and Russian food and fertilizer exports are ‘essential’ for global food security.

In addition, he recalled that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been “mobilized” to safeguard the safety of nuclear power plants in Ukraine, including that of Zaporizhzhyathe largest in Europe.
The UN Secretary General stated that in his opinion it is possible to mediate to achieve complete demilitarization of the area and the return of the plant to its usual operation and offered to the United Nations for this role.
