António Guterres and Volodimir Zelensky met in kyiv to extend the grain export agreement amid the Russian invasion

The general secretary of United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterresmet this Wednesday in kyiv with the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenskyto “look for solutions” that allow reaching the final objective of a “just peace”according to what the first said in statements to the press.

“The sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine must remain within its internationally recognized borders,” Guterres said at the start of the meeting.

“Our ultimate goal is equally clear, a just peace based on the UN Charter, international law and the recent General Assembly resolution which marks one year since the start of the war,” he added.

Gutérres pointed out that until it is possible to achieve this goal, the UN will continue to strive to mitigate the impact of conflict both for the Ukrainian population and globally.

In this regard, he recalled that the initiative of the broker for the ukrainian cereal through the Black Sea has made it possible to transport 23 million tons of grainreducing the global price of food and offering “crucial relief” to those in other regions of the world “also pay a high price for war,” he stressed.

The UN Secretary General stated that in his opinion it is possible to mediate to achieve complete demilitarization of the area and the return of the plant to its usual operation and offered to the United Nations for this role.

Zelensky, for his part, published on his channel Telegram Images of the reception of the UN Secretary General.

“It is very important that we talk in kyiv about how to restore peace, international security and the full force of the UN Charternorms that are equally important for all the nations of the planet”, he affirmed.
