At least eight people died this Wednesday and eleven were injured in an attack by the Somali jihadist group Al Shabab against the international airport of Mogadishu, the country’s capital, which in turn houses a compound with UN offices.the local police confirmed to the Efe news agency.
”I am witnessing the fire, smoke comes out of the stores (…). There are dead and wounded who have been taken to hospital”, the police officer told Efe. Muhammad Adamwho witnessed the attack.
”The attack resulted in the death of eight people, including two policemen, a soldier from AMISOM (the African Union mission in Somalia) and five civilians”Adam pointed out.
Somali security forces repelled the attackkilling two of the assailants, police commander general Abdi Hassan Hijar.
The assailants, armed with pistols and grenades, posed as airport employees when they launched the attack, added the police commander.

The two assailants attempted to enter a military base inside Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu, but were blocked, police spokesman Senior Abdifitah Adan said. Three police officers were injured, he added.
The Islamist group Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the act.stating that their fighters managed to penetrate a complex where several diplomatic missions are located.
A dense column of black smoke emanated from the place where a stray bullet hit a fuel tank, Awil Abdi, a witness to the event, told the AP news agency.
All flights, both national and international, were suspended after the attackThe airport said in a statement.
Al-Shabab routinely carries out deadly attacks in Mogadishu and other parts of Somalia. The rebels want to impose strict Islamic Sharia law, they oppose the government in Mogadishu and the presence of international peacekeepers.
