Slow-paced deliveries

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, recognized this Monday that the delivery of ammunition promised to Ukraine to defend itself against Russia is not going at the expected pace, although the EU is doing “everything you can” to meet their commitments.

“The ammunition has figures that do not reach the prospects that I would like already (Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitro) Kuleba, definitely. But it’s a matter of forcing the pace and increasing deliveries,” Borrell said at a press conference at the end of a Council of Foreign Ministers.

Kuleba participated in the meeting of European ministers by videoconference and, after expressing his “frustration” last week over the delays, he again insisted that the EU act to remedy the difficulties.

Kuleba expresses the anguish of those who live in a war”, pointed out Borrell, who saw it as “normal” that he “insistently and urgently ask for more and more help”.

In any case, he assured that from the EU “we are doing everything we can to fulfill all our commitments”, although he acknowledged the delay in the delivery of ammunition for artillery although missiles are progressing more smoothly, having already provided a thousand units. , said.

The EU has pledged to give Ukraine one million rounds of ammunition this year and has pursued several tracks in parallel to this end. The first of these is for Member States to deliver as soon as possible to Ukraine as much ammunition as possible that they have in stock.
