Two laws to facilitate future military mobilizations

The Government of Ukraine has presented two new laws with which he wants to facilitate future military mobilizations, in the midst of debate on the demands of the Armed Forces, which would have called for the incorporation of up to half a million new recruits.

The first Minister, Denis Shmigaldelivered two new laws that advocate “improving” the current system, for example lowering the minimum age from 27 to 25 years to recruit people without military experience in times of war and proposing new reviews of men who have previously been excluded from the Armed Forces.

Another of the Government’s objectives is to expedite the location and recruitment of citizens who are abroadfor example with electronic notices to the addresses that appear in a registry that must be updated regularly, the agency informs DPA.

In addition, the authorities seek to toughen the punishments for not providing the information required in this registry, so that those who fail to comply with this rule are not only subject to fines but also to prison sentences or the confiscation of bank accounts.

For those residing abroad, keeping the registry updated will be mandatory to renew official documents, according to the texts presented to Parliament and which are still subject to a process of debate and, by extension, amendments.

The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskystated last week that the Armed Forces had demanded the mobilization of half a million more people to increase the capacity of the troops in the response to the invasion launched by Russia.

The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Valeri Zaluzhni, He assured on Tuesday that no specific figure has been raised from the military sphere, although he has acknowledged that requests for potential reinforcements are “constantly” made.

“We need weapons, we need people”said Zaluzhni, who left the formal presentation of political initiatives that include these requests in the hands of the Ministry of Defense, according to statements collected by UNIAN.

Over the last few weeks, the possibility of approving military mobilization to send nearly 500,000 soldiers to the battlefront against Russia, which has invaded Ukrainian territory since February 2022, has already been flying over Ukraine. Zelensky has already left the door open to this possibility, as does the Minister of Defense, Rustem Umierov. It has been reported from kyiv that the mobilization could even affect Ukrainian men living abroad.
