The Australian government announced on Friday the sending military assistancewhich includes the drone deploymentfor Ukrainian troops and new sanctions against Russiawhen the first year of the illegal invasion of russian troops into ukraine.

The drones “will provide intelligence, surveillance and battlefield reconnaissance capabilities to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.””, highlighted in a statement the Defense Minister Richard Marles.

This military assistance package, which is in addition to the previous shipment of ammunition, artillery and almost a hundred armored vehicles, coincides with the graduation of 200 Ukrainian soldiers trained in Australiapart of the multinational training program led by the United Kingdom.

These soldiers now have “life-saving skills and knowledge” in the standoff against Russia’s “unwarranted aggression,” Marles said.

The Australian government also announced on Friday new targeted financial sanctions against 40 Russian entities and a travel ban on 90 people, which include Russian ministers with responsibilities covering energy, natural resources, industry, education, labor, migration and health.

Since the war in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022, Australia has imposed more than 1,000 sanctions against Russian companies and representativesincluding the president Vladimir Putin.

The Foreign Minister, Penny Wongremarked that this new package of targeted sanctions is directed against “those in the Russian government who help prolong this war, they finance it and spread falsehoods to justify it.”

The oceanic country stressed its support for the people of Ukraine and the government of President Volodimir Zelensky, as well as the fundamental norms of sovereignty and territorial integrity, and calls for the withdrawal of Russian troops to end the war.

“This is a very grim occasion for the people of Ukraine. One year after the unprovoked, unjustified and illegal large-scale invasion of Russia, the cost of Russia’s aggression is incalculable (…) We continue to support Ukraine,” Australian Prime Minister Remarked in the same statement. France and Australia have expressed their common commitment to the security of Ukraine and their decision to continue supporting Ukraine”, indicated the two countries in a joint statement.
