“Putin sacrifices his people and his army for his personal and political survival”, he stressed in an interview reviewed by the EFE agency. He added that the Russian president expected it to be “a blitzkrieg” but after 18 months “has failed in his invasion of Ukraine”, leaving behind “the systematic destruction of that country”.
“The war has definitely pushed Ukraine to the side that Putin did not want it to be in,” he said, since “wars accelerate history” and without it Ukraine’s candidacy for the European Union “would have taken years”.
On the other hand, he analyzed the role of China, a country that he considers “a true geopolitical actor, while Russia is like a gas station whose owner has an atomic bomb.”
