China wants to inspect ships sailing in the Taiwan Strait

The Fujian Maritime Safety Administration of China launched a joint patrol and inspection special operation three-day duration in the central and northern parts of the Taiwan Strait which includes maneuvers to board ships, as reported in his account of wechat.

The move comes amid an increase in tensions between China and Taiwan. On Wednesday, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, kevin mccarthyreceived in California the Taiwanese president, Tsai Ing-wenbecoming the highest-ranking American figure to meet a Taiwanese leader on American soil in decades.

The maritime security authority of the southeast China province said on Wednesday that the operation included “on-site inspections” on direct cargo ships and construction ships on both sides of the Taiwan Strait “to ensure the safety of navigation of ships and ensure the safe and orderly operation of key projects in the water.”

Taiwan’s Ministry of Transportation’s Maritime and Port Bureau said in a statement late on Wednesday that it has filed a energetic protest to China over the measure.

It has also notified the relevant shipping operators that if they encounter such requests from China, they should reject them and immediately notify the Taiwanese coast guard for assistance.

“If the mainland insists on taking unilateral measures, it will create obstacles to normal exchanges between the two parties. We will be forced to take the corresponding measures, ”he added, without elaborating.

The areas covered by the operation include the direct container route taiwanthe “little three links” passenger route, the regular shipping route of the Taiwan Strait, the densely navigable areas of commercial vessels and fishing vessels, and areas with frequent illegal sand mining activities.

The “three little links” passenger route refers to the boat routes between the Taiwanese islands of Kinmen and Matsulocated opposite China and Chinese cities.

The fleet, a joint special operation with the East China Sea Salvage Office and the East China Sea Navigation Support Center, will continue to carry out inspections of cruise ships in the central and northern parts of the Taiwan Strait for the next two days.
