In a statement published in the early hours of Thursday to Friday, the Elysee explained that Macron insisted before Netanyahu on “the necessary firmness against the flight forward” of Iran with its military nuclear program.

He warned that if this program continues there will be “inevitably consequences”and emphasized Tehran’s lack of transparency with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The main point of contention between Iran and the Westerners is the uranium enrichment at a level that the latter consider to be solely for the purpose of obtaining a nuclear weapon.

Beyond the nuclear issue, Macron and Netanyahu showed their “strong concern over Iran’s destabilizing activities in the region as a whole”.

The French president also charged against Iran’s support for “Russian aggression in Ukraine”which exposes Tehran to “sanctions and increasing isolation.”

An allusion to the sanctions that the European Union has already imposed and those that it could impose in the future, taking into account, among other things, that the Twenty-seven accuse Tehran of using some European citizens detained in Iran (there are seven French) like “State hostages”.

Macron expressed the “full and complete solidarity of France with Israel in its fight against terrorism”in particular after the attack on Friday of last week in a Palestinian who murdered seven Israelis next to a synagogue in Jerusalem.

At the same time, he showed his “concern” for the current situation in the Palestinian territories and in Israel, and stressed that “any measure likely to fuel the machinery of violence that has already caused too many innocent victims among Palestinian and Israeli civilians” must be avoided.

The French president repeated that his country defends the “status quo” of the holy places in Jerusalem and his “strong opposition” to the continuation of Israeli colonization in the Palestinian territories, which “threatens” the prospect of creating a future state there, but also “the hopes of peace and security for Israel.”

Macron praised the “normalization” of diplomatic relations between Israel and “several States of the region”alluding to the agreements with several Arab countries, because that “contributes to stability and security.”

But he pointed out that this normalization will remain incomplete until it is accompanied by a resumption of “a political process towards a solution that responds to the legitimate aspirations of both the Palestinians and the Israelis.”
