Russia today launched the 10th air strike on kyiv so far this month and also attacked Leopolis and Krivoy Rog, while the mercenaries of the Wagner Group admitted that they could not finish capturing the city of Bakhmut in the face of the fierce resistance of the Ukrainian troops and their counterattacks.

The Russian Army attacked with “high-precision weapons from the sea deployment points and training centers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as warehouses of ammunition, weapons and equipment manufactured abroad,” said the spokesman for the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Russia, lieutenant general Igor Konashenkov.

He assured that “all the objectives were hit” and that, as a result of the attacks, “the supply, training and formation of reserves of the Ukrainian troops to carry out tasks in the combat areas were disturbed.”

drones and missiles

According to kyiv, in the attack this morning Russia used without great success a total of 22 Shahed 136/131 drones Iranian-made missiles and six Kalibr cruise missiles.

The Ukrainian authorities indicated that the air defense systems they shot down 19 drones and three missiles.

The head of the military administration of the Kiev province, Serhiy Popko, reported that the Russians launched several waves of drones against the capital at short intervals, in order to try to wear down the Ukrainian anti-aircraft defense and psychologically influence the civilian population.

However, he assured, all the devices were demolished.

In Krivoy Rog, a city in the eastern Dnipropetrovsk region, at least two people, a 64-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man, were injured as a result of the night attack.

“The enemy attacked a private industrial company (…) Several workshops were seriously damaged and some buildings were set on fire,” said the head of the regional military administration, Serhiy Lysak.

In Lvivin western Ukraine, authorities reported no casualties or damage.

The Battle of Bakhmut

On the ground, the intensity of the fighting reaches its peak in the eastern city of Bakhmut, scene of a battle that has been going on for almost ten months.

The leader of the Wagner Group mercenary company, Yevgeny Prigozhinadmitted today that “heavy fighting” is taking place in Bakhmut and ruled out the early total capture of that city.

“I inform everyone officially: Bakhmut has not yet been taken. There is an apple called ‘Airplane’. It is an impregnable fortress made up of a row of tall buildings located in the southwest of Bakhmut. There are very hard fights, very hard”, said the chief of the Wagnerites.

He insisted on accusing the Russian military command of the difficulties his men have in fully capturing the city, which, according to him, they already control 98 percent.

Prigozhin recognized that Bakhmut “it will hardly be fully taken tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.”

Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar said last night that Ukrainian troops currently “control the southwestern part of Bakhmut.”

defense and counter attack

And it is that the Ukrainian troops are not limited to defending the few positions that hold the west of the city, devastated by military actions, but rather counterattack in areas north and south of the city and, according to Ukrainian military experts, if successful they could encircle the Russian forces in Bakhmut.

“Our units press the enemy on the flanks when an opportunity appears, and continue to advance on the ground,” said the spokesman for the Eastern command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Serhiy Cherevaty.

He added that during the day Ukrainian units “They have managed to advance up to 500 meters in different directions.”

Cherevaty noted that “Bakhmut continues to be a priority” for the Russians, but stressed that it can be said that “in a certain way” the Ukrainian troops have taken the initiative.

The G7 reaffirms its commitment

With the fighting underway, Ukraine received a new and important boost today: the G7 leaders today unveiled at their summit in the Japanese city of Hiroshima a new round of sanctions on Russia and reaffirmed their commitment to support kyiv at the financial, humanitarian, military and diplomatic levels.

In a statement, they stressed that it is not possible to achieve a “just peace” without the “complete and unconditional withdrawal” of Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine.

With this, the seven most industrialized democracies in the world aligned themselves with the position of the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, who rejects all negotiations with Moscow as long as there is a single Russian soldier on Ukrainian territory.
