Fernando Botero died this Friday at the age of 91 in Italy, and his death immediately caused shock throughout the world. The plastic artist became famous for his paintings and sculptures of voluptuous figures.

An announcement from his daughter, Lina Botero, through Caracol Radio confirmed this sad news: “My father died this morning at 9:00 am in Monaco (…) he had developed pneumonia,” he stated.


The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, did not take long to pronounce on Twitter: “Fernando Botero, the painter of our traditions and defects, the painter of our virtues, has died. The painter of our violence and peace. Of the dove rejected a thousand times and placed on its throne a thousand times.

Meanwhile, Vice President Francia Márquez wrote: “I regret the death of maestro Fernando Botero. His work opened paths of dignity and recognition for Colombian art, his legacy is a source of pride for the entire country. I express my condolences to his family and friends.”
