In the last hours a new chapter was added to the complaint made by Chile against Ecuador on the way to the Qatar 2022 World Cup. After the National Professional Soccer Association (ANFP) filed a complaint about the controversial case of Byron Castilloa soccer player who represented the Ecuadorian national team in the matches against The Red during the Qualifiers but who would have Colombian nationality, lFIFA announced that it opened a disciplinary process to investigate what happened.
Through a statement, the entity that directs the destinies of world football gave details on how the dispute between two South American federations will continue. “As recently confirmed by FIFA, The Chilean Football Federation has filed a complaint with the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, in which it presents various allegations about the possible falsification of the documents that grant Ecuadorian nationality to the player Byron David Castillo Seguraas well as the possible breach of said footballer of the call criteria to participate with the national team of the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) in eight qualifying matches, corresponding to the preliminary phase of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 ” , indicated the first fragment of the report.
Immediately afterwards, the entity directed by Gianni Infantino expanded the news of the case. “Given the foregoing, FIFA has decided to open disciplinary proceedings in relation to the possible breach by Byron David Castillo Segura of the call criteria for the indicated matches. In this context, the FEF and the Peruvian Football Federation have been invited to present their positions before the FIFA Disciplinary Committee. More details will be published soon”, closed the report.
It must be remembered that a few days ago, after an extensive analysis and investigation carried out by the law firm of the Brazilian jurist Eduardo Carlezzowho in 2016 was already in charge of the case of the Bolivian Nelson Cabrera, with whom Chile achieved two extra points on his way to Russia 2018, the trans-Andean federation concluded that there was the necessary evidence to file a claim against the selected team led by Gustavo Alfaro.
In the claim that the ANFP sent to the body that regulates world football, there is different evidence that would show that Castillo had presented false documents. “The facts are too serious and must be thoroughly investigated by FIFA”established the report presented by the federation that brings together the representatives of Chilean soccer.
“The world of football cannot close its eyes to so many tests. The practice of serious and conscious irregularities in the registration of players cannot be accepted, especially when we are talking about a world competition. There must be fair play on and off the pitch,” the statement added.
According to the Chilean entity, Byron Castillo, who plays for Barcelona in Guayaquil, was born on July 25, 1995 in the Colombian city of Tumaco, and not in General Villamil Playas, Ecuador, on November 10, 1998.
Once the complaint was made public, the FEF also joined and left its position on the controversy that arose in the final stretch for the World Cup. “Given the unfounded rumors spread to public opinion, with the clear objective of destabilizing the Ecuadorian Football Federation, we hereby categorically reject any attempt by those who seek to prevent their participation in the Qatar 2022 World Cup, which It was legitimately obtained on the field and respecting all the principles and values that emanate from sport, as well as all legal regulations in force in the Ecuadorian State and international sports law”, was the first part of the statement from the Ecuadorian federation.
“In relation to our team, Mr. Byron Castillo, we must be emphatic that the soccer player is an Ecuadorian citizen for all legal purposes, both in the civil sphere and in sports, being duly registered with the competent national authority and having all the national documentation in order”, they added.
It should be noted that Ecuador qualified for the World Cup after finishing fourth in the standings with 26 points. Although Chile only added 19 units (finished in 7th place), The intention of this claim from the ANFP would be for its team to attend Qatar, something that would be possible if Ecuador loses all the points it earned in the eight Qualifying matches that Castillo was present..
The defender played against Paraguay, Venezuela, Uruguay, Bolivia and, logically, against Chile (0-0 in Quito; 0-2 in Santiago). If FIFA sanctions the Tri for “improper alignment”, Chile would add six units, reach 24 points and qualify directly for the next World Cup.
