First Look at Marisa Abel as Amy Winehouse Released for ‘Back to Black’ Biopic

Back To Black will be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, best known for directing the 2009 John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy.

In more recent times, the film industry has been responsible for bringing the lives of great music stars to the big screen as it was with Freddie Mercury, Elton John and the most recent case, Elvis Presley.

It’s the turn of another great music icon. This is Amy Winehouse, who will be played by actress Marisa Abel in a biopic of the controversial singer who died at the age of 27.

It was last Friday, January 13, when Studio Canal shared a photo where the actress is seen characterizing the popular singer, confirming the rumors that she had been chosen to star in this movie called Back to Black.

Back To Black will be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, best known for directing the 2009 John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy and 50 Shades of Grey. Filming is scheduled to begin on January 16 in London.

According to a press release, Back To Black will focus on Amy’s extraordinary genius, creativity and honesty that infused everything she did.

Abela is best known for playing Yasmin Kara-Hanani on the HBO series Industry. She will also star in the upcoming film adaptation of Barbie with Greta Gerwig, opposite Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
