Five people have been arrested in Sweden for planning a terrorist attackreported this Tuesday the intelligence services of this Nordic country (Säpo), which pointed out that they had connections with the “extremist Islamism”.
The arrests took place on Monday in three different locations, in an action in which National Police forces participated and in which several homes were searched.
“The current case is one of many that the secret services are working with following the protests against Sweden in connection with the famous burning of a Koran in January,” said Säpo in a statement, which does not believe that a hypothetical attack was “imminent.”
The Danish-Swedish far-right Rasmus Paludan burned a copy of the Koran in front of the Turkish Embassy in Stockholmwhich caused protests in various Muslim countries and that the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoganparalyzed the negotiations with Sweden and Finland on their entry into the NATO.

The entry of Sweden and Finland into the Alliance, motivated by the Russian military intervention in Ukraine and ending two centuries of military non-alignment, was approved at the summit last June in Madridafter Turkey lifted its veto at the last minute in exchange for certain conditions, embodied in an agreement.
The parliaments of Turkey and Hungary, the last two NATO member countries that were yet to do so, last week gave the green light to Finland, which is now officially part of the Alliance, but remains suspicious of Stockholm.
Hungary reproaches Sweden for its attitude “hostile”while Turkey considers that it is not doing enough in its fight against terrorism, especially of Kurdish origin.
The Swedish government has declared on several occasions that it has complied with the memorandum agreed in Madrid, in the absence of new anti-terrorism legislation that will be approved by Parliament on June 1, and that it does not plan to take additional measures.
Stockholm is confident of formalizing its membership at the next NATO summit in July in Vilnius.
