The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB, for its acronym in English) of the United States opened an investigation this week into what happened on United Airlines flight 1722 that linked Hawaii with San Francisco on December 18, 2022, whose passengers gave testimony in various media about what what happened on board.
A passenger on board experience and that of his family. rod williams ii revealed that he was sitting near the rear of the United plane – a Boeing 777 – with his wife and children, when the plane began to plummeting down suddenly.
The plane, which was en route to San Francisco from Hawaii, found itself in the middle of a heavy storm. The storm caused it to plummet for a few eight or ten seconds, sparking mass panic in the cabin, Williams explained. The aircraft lost more than half its altitude and came to rest 775 feet (236 meters) from sea levelaccording to FlightRadar24.
“It seemed like you were going to the top of a roller coaster”Williams told the CNNadding that he noticed the plane had descended at a “worrying rate” for several seconds.
The American from Ohio said it was at this point that the passengers, who had initially been trying to remain calm, began to panic.
“There was a lot of screaming on the plane”, he detailed. “Everyone knew that there was something out of the ordinary, or at least that it was not normal,” she added, speaking to the CNN.
Still, Williams did his best to stay calm so his children and wife wouldn’t see him worried and freak out more.
“You do your best to keep your composure: obviously there are children on the flight, no one really knows what is going on. But at the same time, andare you worried. You don’t know if it’s a problem,” she said. “It was something out of the ordinary”he assured.

Williams revealed that he and his wife, sitting on either side of their two children, shared a silent gaze as the plane plummeted.
“You’re tense, you don’t really have a chance to speak or conjure up words, you’re just holding on to the seat and praying quietly”, he recalled what was going through his head at that moment.
“We were praying for a miracle”he added.
Speaking to the CNNWilliams said the passengers were not told how close the plane came to hitting the water.
He only found out last Sunday when his father showed him the coverage of the incident by air current.
“Now that I know, statistically, what happened and that we were within 5 or 5.2 seconds from falling into the waterI count my blessings. I remember that when my wife and I pray together before flights, there is a God who is there,” she noted.

Williams took the opportunity to thank the drivers for their “incredible recovery efforts.”
“You read about these things, but when you get to experience it, it’s sobering. I am very grateful to be here today”, he concluded.
Neither United Airlines nor the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) indicated whether there were any injuries on Flight 1722.
According to information, the fall began one minute after takeoff.
