The office of the prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahustated this Thursday that the sanctions imposed this Thursday by the administration of the president of the United States, Joe Bidenagainst four settlers for promoting violent acts in the West Bank are a “drastic” step.

“The absolute majority of settlers in Judea and Samaria are law-abiding citizens.”many of whom currently fight regularly and in the reserves for the defense of Israel,” the Executive indicated in a brief statement on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

He also stressed that the Israeli authorities act “against all lawbreakers,” and stated: “There is no room for drastic measures in this regard.”

For his part, the Israeli Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, accused this Thursday on the aforementioned social network of the United States of championing an “immoral campaign” by the BDS collective (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel). He further asserted that this “campaign” is an “anti-Semitic lie spread by the enemies of Israel,” which “transforms victims into attackers” and seeks to “discredit” all of Israel.

“We will continue to act fearlessly to strengthen and develop Jewish settlements throughout the Land of Israel and strive for lasting peace, which will only be achieved when the hope of the Arabs to establish an Arab State on the ruins of the Jewish State is frustrated.” , he added.

Likewise, Israel’s Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvirhighlighted that “those who are attacked and stoned in an attempt not to be injured or killed are the heroic settlers of Judea and Samaria.”

The head of the Samaria Regional Council, Yossi Dagandemanded the Government to act against what he has called a “witch hunt” and maintained that he hopes that Biden will act “with the same tools against the Arab terrorists of the Palestinian Authority.”

His words come after Biden stated in an executive order that the levels of settler violence, coupled with the forced displacement of people and the destruction of property, represent “a serious threat to the peace, security and stability of the West Bank.” and Gaza, Israel and the Middle East region.”

Those sanctioned are David Chai Chasdai, Einan Tanjil, Shalom Zicherman and Yinon Levi.

Those sanctioned will have all assets they may have in the United States blocked and will be prevented from receiving transactions from Americans. In short, they are deprived of access to the American financial system.

In addition, they are also prohibited from entering the United States.

These sanctions are covered by a new executive order that Biden promoted this Thursday and which aims to punish people “who have perpetrated violence” and those “who have participated in repeated acts of intimidation and destruction of property, which has led to the forced displacement of Palestinian communities.

Chasdai, for example, led riots in Huwara with burning of vehicles and buildings and attacks on Palestinian civilians that led to the death of a West Bank man; while Tanjil was implicated in attacks on Palestinian farmers.

Levi led a group of settlers who “created an atmosphere of fear in the West Bank” with attacks on multiple communities. The sanctioned person “frequently” attacked Palestinian and Bedouin civilians, threatening them to leave their homes, burning their land and destroying their property.

Zicherman, for his part, attacked and injured Israeli activists in the West Bank.

In December, Washington already announced the ban on entry into the country of “radical” Israeli settlers, considered responsible for the violent attacks against the Palestinian population in the occupied West Bank.
