Bezos compared his philanthropic strategy to the years he spent creating Amazon and cloud computing: “It’s not easy,” he said.

“Creating Amazon was not easy, it took a lot of hard work, a group of very smart teammates, hard workers, and I am finding myself, and I think Lauren is the same, that charity, philanthropy is very similar,” reflected the magnate in an interview with CNN in 2022.

At a business forum held in Bali on the sidelines of the G20 summit in November 2022, Bezos claimed to protect the “fragile” planet Earth through technological advances.

“The planet is warming up, the sea level is rising, the storms are intensifying. Our oceans are acidifying and our fish populations are declining. The soil is eroding and deserts are encroaching,” Bezos said.

To combat the climate crisis, the American calls for the collaboration of public and private organizations and to observe “the main role” that technology has played during the history of humanity.

The philanthropist is committed to the gradual elimination of combustion engines, decarbonization of steel and cementamong other measures.

As well as increasing crop yields, reducing food loss and empowering indigenous communities to manage tropical forests.

“We know that smart action against climate change doesn’t just prevent bad things from happening. It can also improve resource efficiency, drive new technologies, reduce uncertainty and create new opportunities”, he underlines.
