The president of United States, Joe Bidencongratulated this Saturday the Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthyThat after fifteen votes was chosen tonight to lead the House of Representatives of the country, at the same time that he extended a hand to collaborate.

In a statement, Biden reiterated, as he already said after the midterm elections last November in which the conservatives regained control of the Lower House, that he is prepared to work with the Republicans.

“Now that the leadership of the House of Representatives has decided, it is time for this process to begin,” encouraged the president, who recalled that in the two years of his term, things have been done for the country. thanks to the collaboration of democrats and republicans in Congress.

McCarthy’s election has been blocked these days by the opposition of about twenty Republicans ultras who had a series of demands to support him, such as being able to make a motion of no confidence against the president of the chamber, several chairs in the rules committee, the head in various subcommittees and having relevance within the Assignments Committee, one of the most powerful members of the hemicycle, among others.

After hours and hours of lobbying, the wayward Republicans have been changing the sign of their vote this Friday, to the point that the majority of them supported McCarthy in the last round and six abstained.

As in the previous vote and unlike the first thirteen, the radical republicans did not field any alternative candidates McCarthy, who was measured in this last round with the leader of the Democrats in the chamber, Hakeem Jeffrieswhich received 212 votes Just like in the previous rounds.

This last round took place after a penultimate one in which they lived Tense moments between McCarthy and radical conservative Matt Gaetzally of the former president donald trumpwho frustrated his election by deciding to abstain when the California legislator was close to victory with one vote to go.

according to the newspaper The New York Times, Trumpwho this week urged his supporters to back McCarthy, reportedly called Gaetz when he saw that the Republican nominee’s election was in jeopardy.

The McCarthy’s appointment ends a grueling and chaotic week at the us capitol that started last Tuesday when, for the first time in a hundred yearsthe speaker of the house of representatives was not elected on the first ballot because he had detractors within his own party.

Those detractors have been a twenty far-right congressmenmany of them faithful to Trump and members of the ultraconservative freedom caucus groupwho have not given their arm to twist until this Friday.

In votes 12 and 13 held on Friday morning, some of them began to support McCarthy, among cheers from the rest of the congressmen for each step taken to unblock the situation.

And it is that without a president of the Lower House the 118 Congress could not start its activities. The only option to elect him was to continue repeating votes until a candidate reached a majority, something that happened at the gates of the weekend.
