Joe Biden promised that NATO will help Ukraine for as long as it takes to repel the Russian invasion

The president of United States, Joe Bidenstated that the members of the G7 issued a joint statement “to make it clear that our support will last long into the future.”

Speaking together with the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenskyand the Japanese president, Fumio Kishidaafter the meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council, Biden affirmed that “we won’t wait” to develop the process of accession to the alliance to guarantee long-term security commitments with Ukraine.

“This initiates a process by which each of our nations and any others that wish to participate will negotiate long-term bilateral security commitments with and for Ukraine. We will help Ukraine build a strong and capable defense on land, sea and in the air. It will be a force for stability in the region and a deterrent in the face of each and every one of the threats”, stated the North American.

The US president promised to help Ukraine “as long as it takes”.

For his part, Zelensky praised the “important package of security guarantees” offered by the G7 countries, which promised long-term support to defeat Russia.

“The Ukrainian delegation brings home a important victory on security for Ukraine, for our country, for our people, for our children,” Zelensky declared in Vilnius.

He also said that the NATO leaders’ summit has been a “success” for your country. “The outcome of the NATO summit in Vilnius is a success that Ukraine needed and it has great significance,” he said, standing on a stage with the Group of Seven leaders on the sidelines of the NATO summit that ends today after two days of meetings.

Despite Zelensky’s statements, NATO did not achieve what the Ukrainian leader most wanted: a declaration establishing a clear path and with specific dates for Ukraine’s entry into the military organization.
