Jon Bon Jovi is recognized as Person of the Year 2024 at the Grammys

The American rocker Jon Bon Jovi was recognized this Friday night as Person of the Year 2024 at the 33rd edition of the MusiCares awards, the charitable arm of the Grammy organization that honors a music star each season for their legacy and philanthropic work.

«The personalities who have received this award before are incredible. It is a great honor to have it given to me. “I feel something like I’m entering the Mount Rushmore of the music industry,” said the artist, dressed in a black suit, during the red carpet of this event held at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

The gala in which the singer from New Jersey, who has a Grammy Award in his honor, was honored, was presented by comedian Jim Gaffigan and featured performances by figures such as Melissa Etheridge, Shania Twain, Jason Isbell, Brandy Clark, Damiano David, Goo Goo Dolls, Jelly Roll or Marcus King.

Also present were Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen, to whom an emotional Bon Jovi wanted to especially dedicate part of the award he received.

«I want to mention my hero, friend, my mentor… Bruce Springsteen. His mother died two days ago, when he was already on the plane here. He certainly would have understood if he had said he couldn’t attend, but he wanted to be here because he cares about the music and about me. “I will always be eternally grateful to him,” said the ‘It’s My Life’ singer.
Regarding the British singer-songwriter and composer, he said that he is “a man who has previously received this award” whose work contributed to “everyone present coming together” this Friday in another edition of this ceremony.

In addition to the vocalist and leader of the rock band Bon Jovi himself, the MusiCares award for person of the year had previously gone to stars such as Joni Mitchell, Dolly Parton and Smokey Robinson.

The non-profit organization MusiCares joined the US Recording Academy, responsible for the prestigious Grammy Awards, in 1993 to support different programs that promote the health and well-being of people in the music industry. , including financial grants in case of crisis.

The Person of the Year Gala is MusiCares’ primary fundraising event.

Jon Bon Jovi, who was accompanied by his wife Dorothea Hurley and his daughter Stephanie Rose Bongiovi, created the organization Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation and the JBJ Soul Kitchens almost two decades ago, which helps fight hunger, poverty and lack of housing by providing food, housing and job training initiatives in the United States.

“Philanthropic work has been a cornerstone of my life and has always run parallel to my musical career and my achievements,” the rock star had said when he found out he would be awarded.
Jon Bon Jovi is one of the protagonists of the docuseries ‘Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story’, which recalls the history of the group with the collaboration of its former and current members, and will premiere on April 26 in the streaming platform Hulu.

During this week, a whole series of parallel events organized by the US Recording Academy have taken place, culminating in the 66th edition of the Grammy Awards, scheduled for this Sunday, February 4 at the Arena in The Angels.
