Turkey suffers another earthquake in the afternoon
A new earthquake of magnitude 7.5 shook the southeast Turkey This Monday afternoon, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported, hours after another earthquake killed nearly 1,500 people in the region.
The tremor was registered at 1:24 p.m. (10:24 GMT) four kilometers southeast of the town of ekinozu.
Turkey raised the balance to almost a thousand dead
The violent earthquake that shook southeastern Turkey on Monday caused 912 deaths and at least 5,385 injuries, according to a new provisional balance from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Some 2,818 buildings collapsed with the tremor, added the president, which raises fears that the death toll will increase. To these figures must be added those who died in neighboring Syria.
Hundreds dead in Syria
The powerful earthquake caused at least 326 deaths in the Syrian government-controlled areas, official media reported.
The official SANA news agency also said the quake caused 1,042 injuries. A previous balance on state television reported 239 deaths in these sectors under the control of the Damascus regime.
The earthquake that struck neighboring Turkey on Monday killed more than 120 people and injured more than 230 in rebel-held areas in northwestern Syria, rescuers said.
The White Helmets relief group, deployed in rebel-held areas of this country, the scene of a civil war since 2011, said on Twitter that the quake left “120+ civilians… dead, 230+ injured” in Idlib province. and rural areas of Aleppo province, and that the balance is expected to rise as “hundreds of families are still trapped under the rubble.”
