The President of France, Emmanuel Macrondid not rule out this Friday that his country will at some point deliver combat planes to Ukrainebut confirmed that those aircraft cannot be given to kyiv in the short term and called for a focus on weapons that will help kyiv immediately.

“No, I exclude absolutely nothing”he responded after being asked if France rules out delivering combat aircraft to Ukraine, as requested by kyiv.

The French politician spoke in this sense during a press conference after the summit of leaders of the European Union held since Thursday in Brussels.

He assured that the discussion held with the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenskyon Wednesday in Paris showed that the priority “must be to do everything to help resist in the coming weeks and carry out useful operations in the coming weeks and months.”

In that sense, Macron considered “essential” to privilege “the materials that are the most useful regarding the final effect sought” by the Ukrainians “and the fastest”.

“In no case can the fighter planes be delivered in the coming weeks,” he said, referring to the fact that the Ukrainian army needs training to handle them and that there is a deadline to deliver them.

“I do not exclude it absolutely, but that does not correspond to the needs today”he insisted, and opted to concentrate on artillery elements that allow land offensives to be carried out.

However, he recognized that there are armies of other European countries that today have combat planes that correspond to those that the Ukrainian Army already knows how to handle, while the French armed forces have “other types” of aircraft.

Asked about the possibility of withdrawing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Legion of Honor, Macron said that he has not made that decision at the moment.

Asked about the possibility of new demonstrations and strikes promoted by unions in France, he hoped to have “the spirit of responsibility of the organizers” so that disagreements “can be expressed calmly, with respect for property and people.” .

On the response to the massive subsidies that the United States offers to clean industries, Macron defended a “quick” reaction from the Twenty-seven and that it be “of the same budget magnitude”.

“We can do it without having a debate on new money because we have not mobilized everything that we have already decided, including common aid for the future, at the time of the coronavirus crisis,” he said, referring to the possibility of creating a new fund. of sovereignty.

For Macron, this possible sovereignty fund must be considered in the longer term.

In fact, he urged prioritizing “the speed of a clear agreement” in response to US subsidies “rather than a difficult debate on new financing” which, in any case, he acknowledged would take place later.

He called to focus on the European Union obtaining exemptions comparable to those that Mexico and Canada have obtained from the United States.
