Prosecutors in the “Rust” case were informed that the gun with which Halyna Hutchins was killed was modified.
The New Mexico Prosecutor’s Office (USA) withdrew the involuntary manslaughter charges against actor Alec Baldwin for the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie “Rust”, as reported this Thursday by the interpreter’s defense to the American media.
“We are delighted with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident,” attorneys Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro said in a statement.
A New Mexico court document reported that the case against Baldwin “is dismissed without prejudice,” but investigations remain “active and ongoing.”
The text indicates that “new facts have been revealed that demand further investigation and forensic analysis that cannot be completed” in time for a preliminary hearing in May.
According to a Los Angeles Times report based on three anonymous sources, prosecutors were told the gun was modified, so it may have been fired by mistake.
