This juried art competition presented by the The City of Miami Beach and the Convention and Visitors Authority welcomes local artists and invites the public to experience the most iconic hotels as fleeting art destinations in their own right. Now in its third and largest annual edition, Not Vacancy has selected 12 artists to create site-specific works in 12 hotels, including The Avalon, The Betsy, Faena Y Fontainebleau. Miami creators like Brookhart Jonquil, Justin Long, Jessy Nite Y Anthony Wright each received a $10,000 stipend to carry out their project at participating building locations. The facilities will be maintained until December 8, when the winner will be announced.

Rock | Roll” by Germane Barnes

The Design District has given his 2022 Annual Design Commission to Miami-Based Architect and Designer Germane Barnes. Rock | roll is a multifaceted installation that is based on the vitality of the Miami Carnival to honor communities BIPOC that contribute to the local multi-ethnic culture. Explore the neighborhood to discover and interact with a series of huge, whimsical pods that rock back and forth when activated by users; hundreds of wind chimes evoking the sounds of soca music hung in the trees and a floating dome suspended high and animated by light and sound, which will serve as an anchor for a lively community commission.

“Starchild” by FriendsWithYou

The collaborative art duo friendswithyou will debut a 50-foot (15.24-meter) tall public sculpture titled starchild in the middle of Henry Liebman Plaza in Miami Beach. starchild will coincide with two presentations in Art Basel Miami Beachwhere the duo will debut other new work in the galleries nanzuka Y GAVLAK. The sculpture is the culmination of a two-decade career and is part of a larger conceptual project, in which FriendsWithYou rename Earth to Ocean. The inauguration will take place on Monday, November 28 at 4 in the afternoon.

“Wish Towers”, by Jaime and Javier Suárez Berrocal

Contemporary arts are back in Villa Vizcaya, just in time for Art Basel. To commemorate the latest installation, there will be an artist talk and brunch reception with $5 admission, much less than the usual $25 ticket to the coveted museum. Explore the famous villa and see the Wish Towers of Jaime and Javier Suárez Berrocal, inspired by the native coral limestone that was used extensively in the creation of the gardens. You will be able to learn more about the piece during the talk.

“Ancient Future”

Presented by SaveArtSpace and curated by Colombian climate activist and social entrepreneur Angela Del Sol, Ancient Future is a public exhibition that will display climate-conscious artwork at 13 bus stops and seven billboards in Miami and Miami Beach. The open call initiative invited multimedia artists to explore the connection between technology, climate and art and envision what the future would look like if humanity came together to solve the climate crisis.

“LOOP”, presentation by Claire Oliver Gallery

Claire Oliver Gallerythe contemporary art gallery located in Central Harlemwill present an art and culture experience that will take an entire block from the heart of overtown for Miami Art Week. LOOP will center around a 5,000-square-foot (465-square-meter) Claire Oliver Gallery space featuring an exhibition of works by gallery artists, and will spill over into the community with an ambitious, interdisciplinary exhibition that includes large photography installations and a program of vocal and visual performances created in collaboration with music, fashion and dance artists.

Created in collaboration with the architect vincent donosothe installation takes the form of the plant, a perennial traveling vine that is almost ubiquitous on the beaches of Florida and all over the world thanks to its floating seeds resistant to seawater.

Sculpture Garden at The Underline

This new public installation and sculpture garden by renowned local artist type Y studioLAAVA debuting at Art Basel will become a permanent fixture at The Underline in brickell. Designed as a space to generate conversation, the installation financed by Airbnb Y nasdaq transforms a section of the 10-mile linear park into a vibrant and surreal gathering area. The installation interweaves modern architecture, colorful outdoor furniture, and giant sculptures into an interactive community space.
