The Moldovan intelligence services confirmed today the plans to destabilize the country that were denounced in Brussels by the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenskywhich directly accused Russia.

The Moldovan Information and Security Service (SIS) confirmed today in a brief statement that “actions have been detected in order to subvert the Republic of Moldova, destabilize and disturb public order”.

The SIS reached this conclusion both thanks to the information received from kyiv and its own investigations.

“Currently, we cannot offer more detailed information, as there is a risk of jeopardizing the current operations underway,” he added, without mentioning Russia at all.

During his speech at the summit of heads of state and government of the European Union in Brussels, Zelenski denounced the “subversive activities” of Russia in Europe, especially in the former Soviet republic of Moldova.

He explained that he contacted the Moldovan president, Maia Sandu, to inform her that they have “intercepted the plan for the destruction of Moldova by Russian intelligence”.

“This document shows who, how and when is going to break Moldova’s democracy and establish control over Moldova,” Zelenski explained, adding that “when I understood where this document came from I immediately alerted Moldova about these threats to protect it.”

Sandu, who defeated pro-Russian Igor Dodon in the 2020 presidential election, supported Zelensky since the start of the Russian military intervention in Ukraine and his country hosted hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees.

At the beginning of February, the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, stated that the West seeks to transform Moldova into the “Next Ukraine”.

Lavrov warned that Sandu “is eager to join NATO.” “She has Romanian citizenship and is ready to unite with Romania and, in general, she is ready for anything,” she said.

Sandu recently assured that “We have to stop Russia and help Ukraine win the war, otherwise we are all in danger.”
