More than 100 hours later, rescuers are still pulling survivors from earthquake rubble in Turkey and Syria

In the southeastern province of Turkey of hatai a mother and her baby just 10 days oldhave been rescued by firefighters after spending more than 90 hours trapped in the rubble of a building destroyed by the earthquakes that shook the country on Monday.

The search and rescue teams of the istanbul municipality 10-day-old baby named Yagiz Ulas was pulled from the rubble of a collapsed building on Friday night.

After baby Yagiz was rescued, teams also took his mother to safety and both were taken to ambulances for a medical examination.

The baby was buried almost 70 hours after a building collapsed in the same Hatay district.

The little girl was transferred to the hospital but in general her health condition was good.

Also on Thursday morning a 12-year-old boy was rescued from another building in the area affected by the earthquake.

Rescue teams are still searching for thousands of people suspected of being trapped in the rubble of collapsed buildings.

But hope diminishes before the freezing temperatures and the passing of the hours.

Three days after the powerful earthquake that shook southern Turkey and northwestern Syria on Monday, the death toll continues to rise: on Thursday the death toll in the two countries exceeded 20,000.

The woman was freed from the rubble with injuries and hospitalized after receiving first aid from the medical teams at the rescue site.

In hataianother woman named Semra et it has also been rescued after 53 hours under the rubble.

“Thank you so much. I love you all ”, were the first words of hers that she said to the firefighters who rescued her.

Adding to the disaster is the fact that many of the basic services in southeastern Turkey have stopped working amid freezing temperatures.

The freezing weather, with as low as -6 degrees in the region, limits survivability as the hours pass since the first tremor early Monday morning.

The death toll from the massive earthquake in Turkey and Syria continued to rise, surpassing 21,000 when the first aid from the UN it reached areas controlled by Syrian rebels, but hopes of finding more survivors were dashed.
