The chief of staff of the attorney general of the state of New York Letitia James, Ibrahim Khanresigned from his post after becoming embroiled in an investigation into at least two complaints of sexual harassment.
This was reported in a statement by the press office of the attorney general collected by the newspaper The New York Times, in which it is detailed that “an” independent and impartial investigation “was carried out and that Khan resigned after the opening of the file.
“The Attorney General’s Office has protocols in place to fully investigate any misconduct charge”, said a spokesperson, stating that the New York Attorney General “He takes these matters very seriously.”
Khan was one of James’s closest political advisers for nearly a decade and was accused of inappropriate touching and unwanted kissing by at least one woman, which is why the prosecutor hired a law firm to investigate the allegations.
These accusations against his now former chief of staff have been particularly sensitive for the New York Attorney General, since she had supervised a sexual harassment investigation in 2021 from the then Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomoaccording to the aforementioned newspaper.
When investigators hired by James’ office determined that Cuomo had sexually harassed multiple women over a seven-year period, the prosecutor came out strongly against him.

“No man, no matter how powerful, can harass women,” he said in a statement, so that the then-governor of New York resigned shortly after.
On Friday, Khan defended himself in a statement, saying he planned to leave his post by December 31, the end of the first term of Letitia James, who was re-elected last month.
“I plan to leave office to move into the private sector at the end of this year,” he said in the statement. “This is not related to the investigation against me, which has not found any misconduct on my part in the workplace,” adding that “he is proud of all that we have accomplished in these last four years in serving the New Yorkers”.
The affirmation of Ibrahim Khan that the investigation found “no workplace misconduct” could not be immediately substantiated by The New York Times
The accusations also affect former employees of the office, according to sources linked to the investigation.
“The attorney general’s office has protocols in place to fully investigate any allegations of misconduct,” a spokeswoman said. “The office takes these matters very seriously and this situation is no different. An independent and impartial investigation was conducted, and the employee resigned.”
The multiple accusations against Khan were communicated to the attorney general’s office by a political consultant, not by the victims themselves, according to one of the sources consulted by the newspaper.
Khan’s allegations of sexual harassment came to light long before. In 2017, when Letitia James was the city’s public defender and he was her chief of staff, the New York Post reported that a former office employee had accused him of drugging and sexually assaulting her at a holiday party.
