Palestinian militants opened fire on Thursday near a Jewish settlement in the northern West Bank, killing at least one Israeli., as reported by Israeli leaders.
Lieutenant colonel Amnon shefler, spokesman for the Israeli Armed Forces, said this Wednesday during a press conference in which he participated Infobae that the attackers are Palestinians although he cannot confirm the number, identity or whether they are linked to any particular organization at this stage of the investigation.
He also noted that “Iran continues to promote terror and volence but is not directly connected” with this attack.
“They shot from the side of the street. It was more than 10 bullets. In addition to the deceased man, there are two injured ”, he assured about the attack, which he classified as“terrorist” and that It took place near the Homesh settlement in the northern West Bank.
He also confirmed that they are searching the area for the attackers. “We brought in three extra battalions to help. We deploy special forces and other units. We are taking this very seriously. We are bringing the necessary forces to prevent acts of other terrorists ”, revealed Shefler.
“We will continue to promote stability and security for the inhabitants of Judea and Samaria”He added, using the biblical terms for the West Bank.

Homesh was one of four West Bank settlements evacuated as part of Israel’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in 2005. According to Israeli media, Jewish settlers from nearby settlements still visit the top of the hill to study and pray there.
The terrorist group Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, celebrated the attack.
Hazem Qassem, a spokesman for the group, called it a “Heroic operation against the soldiers of the occupation army and their murderous settlers”. But he did not claim responsibility for the attack, indicating that the attacker would have acted alone.
The Israeli Prime Minister, Naftali Bennett, denounced the “horrific” attack, in a statement issued by his office: “The security forces will get their hands on the terrorists very soon and we will make sure that justice is done.”
For his part, the Israeli Defense Minister, Benny gantz, expressed his condolences “to the family of the victim of terrorism murdered in Judea and Samaria”, Using the biblical terms for the West Bank.

“We will increase our vigilance and willingness to thwart terrorism in Judea and Samaria, and we will continue to take the necessary measures to confront terrorist groups in the area ”.
The shooting came amid a spike in Israeli-Palestinian violence. Earlier this month, a Palestinian attacker stabbed and seriously wounded an Orthodox Jew on the outskirts of Jerusalem’s Old City. And just over a week earlier, a Hamas militant opened fire in the Old City, killing an Israeli man.
In both cases, the attackers were killed by the Israeli police; both attackers appear to have acted on their own. “With regard to what is happening in the area, we are acting continuously, and recently 57 terrorists have been arrested,” said the spokesman.
However, he assured that this coffin is different from those that have been happening, since it is not about stab wounds, but rather a shooting. “This is more violent”, ended.
Israel captured East Jerusalem and the West Bank in the 1967 Middle East war. More than 700,000 Israeli Jews live in settlements in the two areas.
