The meeting will take place from February 28 to March 2 at the Santander Performing Arts Complex
The American singer Patti Smith will headline the 2024 edition of the International Music Fair (FIM GDL 2024) in Guadalajara, an event that will conclude with the second edition in the country of PortAmérica, the festival born in Galicia, Spain.
Sergio Arbeláez, director of the FIM, said that Smith will present his sound art project “Correspondences”, a sound installation that combines music, poetry and voice, a performance and a keynote talk.
Smith worked on his project for 10 years together with the group Soundwalk Collective, with which he experimented with soundscapes and collected voices of poets, filmmakers and revolutionaries with whom they reflected on war, the use of weapons and violence.
“They do a beautiful staging that also has an exhibition and will give a conference. The performance is a special project that brings together certain trips to the northern seas, to Chernobyl and its soundscapes with which Smith was writing poetry,” explained Arbeláez.
From February 28 to March 17, the Performing Arts Ensemble will host this multi-channel installation inhabited by the legendary singer’s voice and will offer an immersive audiovisual experience to the audience.
The fair will bring together hundreds of music industry specialists from Latin America, the United States and Canada in Guadalajara, with 30 conferences and workshops, showcase shows with 30 artists.
The FIM will take place from February 28 to March 2, the date on which it will close with the second edition of PortAmérica Latitudes México, a festival that unites the musical experience with the best gastronomy and which this year will be headed by the Uruguayan Jorge Drexler and the Mexicans Caloncho and Carlos Sadness, in addition to emerging projects such as Son Rompe Pera and Nidia Góngora.
In addition to all the previous offer, Arbeláez highlighted the presence of Jeremy Norkin, who has represented Post Malone, Muse, Monsieur Periné and more; as well as Tom Windish, who has participated in the development of tours by Billie Eilish, Lorde, alt-J, The XX, M83, King Krule, Tove Lo, etc.
For his part, Kin Martínez, director of PortAmérica, said that this edition is focused on generating synergy between the Spanish, Mexican and Latin American cultural industries, in addition to promoting gastronomic culture with recognized and emerging chefs.
