The Prime Minister of Poland, Mateusz Morawieckihas paraphrased former United States President Ronald Reagan to warn that “The Empire of Evil is Reborn”in a clear allusion to Russia, whom he accuses of threatening not only Ukraine or Europe, but “the entire free world.”

“Russian barbarians threaten not only Ukraine. They are threatening all of Europe and the entire free world. This is not a mere incident, nor a coincidence, nor a manic impulse,” Morawiecki said on his Twitter profile, where he accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of having built “his evil empire for 23 years.”

“The new Europe understands this. It’s time now for old Europe to understand too”, the Polish prime minister stated on his official profile on the social network Twitter, once again adopting the American conservative discourse, which refers to the states formerly under Soviet influence as the ‘new Europe’.

Morawiecki is visiting the United States, where he has met with Vice President Kamala Harris and has visited the Lockheed Martin plant, an American company specializing in the aerospace and arms industry and responsible for manufacturing combat aircraft such as the F-16.

The term ‘Evil Empire’ was used for the first time by former President Ronald Reagan (1981-1989), who referred to the Soviet Union in those terms, led at that time by Yuri Andropovat a time when relations between Washington and Moscow were particularly tense in the context of the Cold War.

“We are on the right track to achieve industrial cooperation with the tank manufacturer Abrams (…) It is mainly about servicing Polish Abrams, but potentially also other European countries that are interested in buying them,” he said.
