President South Korea surprised everyone by singing American Pie at the White House

Attendees at the Chief States Dinner, which was held Wednesday night at the White House, were shocked when South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol sang the popular American song American Pie, written by singer-songwriter Don McLean.

“We know this is one of your favorite songs, American Pie,” President Joe Biden told his Korean counterpart, before a room full of people.

“Yes, yes, that’s right, it was one of my favorite songs when I was in school,” Yoon Suk Yeol responded to the US president.

“Well, we want you to sing it,” Biden asked, to the laughter of the attendees.

The US president then surprised Yoon with the gift of a guitar signed by Don McLeanwho wrote “American Pie.”

“Now the man who wrote that American Pie song couldn’t come tonight, but he wants you to have his guitar signed,” Biden said.

A star-studded dinner

Actress Angelina Jolie, home improvement duo Chip and Joanna Gaines and Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim They headed the list of big names in politics, business, sports and entertainment who were invited to the elegant gala dinner that Biden offered to the South Korean president at the White House.

Lea Salonga Broadway star, one of the evening’s entertainers, confessed when she arrived that she was “wowed” by the whole experience, admitting: “It feels like being in the middle of a fairy tale”. Kim, for his part, served up a classic understatement as he walked in, telling reporters, “I hear the food is going to be really good.” Jolie wasn’t about to chat when she arrived in a vintage Chanel jacket and cream dress, but she quotes her, 21-year-old son Maddox, at least saying that what she liked most about Seoul was “the people”.

Also among the nearly 200 guests were Arthur Blank, co-founder of Home Depot; “Pachinko” author Min Jin Lee; and former Major League Baseball pitcher Chan Ho Park. Also in attendance was Republican Senator Mitt Romney of Utah, as were the governors of Delaware, New Jersey and Vermont.

On a perfect spring evening, guests strolled into the White House through the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden in the East Wing and were directed to a pre-dinner cocktail reception in the East Room, where tables were draped with towering centerpieces. table with branches of cherry blossoms.
