The Russian president arrived by helicopter in that city in the south of the region of DonetskOn the banks of sea of azovwhich last year was the scene of fierce fighting.
It is the first time that Putin has come to this town, which was taken by Russian forces in May 2022. after months of siege.
During the visit, he toured several neighborhoods in the city in a car that he drove himself, accompanied by the deputy prime minister Marat Khusnulinwhich informed him of the progress of the construction and reconstruction works of Mariupol and its surroundings, according to Putin-controlled propaganda agencies.
“In particular, the construction of new housing units, social and educational centers, infrastructure and medical institutions was discussed,” added the Kremlin press office, which did not specify the duration of the visit.
Soon after, the Russian Presidency reported that Putin met in Rostov-on-Donin southern Russia, with command of the military campaign in Ukraine.
“The head of state heard the reports from the chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valeri Guerasimov, and other military chiefs”, added the press release.

This Saturday, the Kremlin leader visited crimeathe peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014, and inspected the Korsun Art School and children’s center in Chersonese, outside the port of Sevastopol, the main base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
Earlier, the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskovhad announced that on the anniversary of the “reunification with Crimea”, as Moscow calls the illegal annexation of the peninsula, Putin would participate by videoconference in the inauguration of a cultural center.
Both the School of Art and the Korsún children’s center, built by the military, are part of the first stage of the Chersonese Taurico historical-archaeological park.
“It is the idea of the metropolitan of Pskov and Porkhovsk, Tikhon, which the president (Putin) endorsed and which is embodied at an incredible rate thanks to military builders,” the governor of Sevastopol wrote on Telegram.
Razvozhaev indicated that everyone was prepared for a video conference with Putin.

“Finally, the president came in person. By car. He himself was behind the wheel. On this historic day the president is always with Sebastopol and the people of Sebastopol. Our country has an incredible leader,” added the governor.
The illegal annexation of Crimea by Russia is the process of incorporating the two entities forming the Crimean peninsula, the Republic of Crimea and the autonomous city of Sevastopol, as federal subjects of the Russian Federation.
According to the Law on New Federal Territories of Russian law, Crimea has been part of Russia since the signing of the interstate agreement on March 18, 2014.
