Rapper Costa Titch died during a live performance at the age of 27

South African rapper Costa Titch has died after collapsing in the middle of one of his concerts. He was quickly attended to but they could not save his life.

The South African police opened an investigation after the death, in full concert, of the rapper and dancer Costa Titch.

The 28-year-old artist, a leading figure in the African country’s rap movement, “collapsed while performing in concert” on Saturday night at the Ultra South Africa festival, at the Nasrec Expo Center, outside Johannesburg, the police told AFP. The cause of his death has not yet been established.

The family confirmed the death of the artist in a statement on his Instagram account: “It is with deep pain that we see ourselves in the need to recognize his death at this time (…) We are grateful to the first responders and to all those who were present at his last hours.

The organization of Ultra South Africa, the festival where his death occurred, said it was “devastated” by the death of the young rapper.

“Costa was an inspiring voice on the South African Amapian scene: a talented rapper, dancer, singer, songwriter, collaborator and friend of the festival,” the statement said.

The death of Costa Tsobanoglou, his real name, comes a month after the murder of another well-known rapper in South Africa, Kiernan Forbes or AKA. The musician was shot dead outside a restaurant in Durban (southeast). The investigation is still open.
