The agreement – mediated by the United Nations and Türkiye in July 2022 – had allowed almost 33 million metric tons (36 million tons) of grain and other products left three Ukrainian ports safely despite the war in Russia.

However, Russia withdrew from the agreement after alleging that a side agreement that promised to remove obstacles to Russian exports of food and fertilizer had not been fulfilled.

Moscow complained that the restrictions on maritime transport already insurance was hampering its farm trade, even though it has shipped record amounts of wheat since last year.

The Sochi summit is held after talks held on Thursday between the Russian and Turkish foreign ministersin which Russia handed over a list of measures the West would have to take for Ukrainian exports to the Black Sea to resume.
