Sustainable architecture and its path towards the wellness trend

Although in Mexico tourism has adopted this model, there is still an opportunity to detonate it in the real estate market.

Mexico has been known for being a good host for tourists from abroad, especially from North America and Europe, which has been caused, in part, by wellness spaces in tourism; however, there is a challenge to bring this trend to the real estate sector hand in hand with sustainable architecture.

What is sustainable architecture?

According to Carolina Granados as general director of the consulting firm Archetika, the emergency that has been experienced in recent years has led to a change in the perception of the spaces that human beings inhabit and now they are looking for properties with sustainable criteria in terms of architecture. such as environment, health and work.

«In Mexico, wellness arrived through tourism since the year 2000 and has established itself as an international reference for wellness tourism, in different parts of the country: in Tulum, in Tepoztlán, Real del 14, Punta Mita, among others for that hoteliers understand this matter well”, commented Granados.

However, in terms of real estate, the country falls far short of the United States, where the growth trend is close to 20% on average per year.

Data provided from Archetika to EconoHabitat, at the end of 2021 as there were only two real estate projects with the WELL certification, that is, they take care of 10 categories required to promote well-being and improve the productivity of the occupants in a building with which they are:
