Tension in the West Bank: three Palestinians died in one day amid clashes with the Israeli Army

Tension is growing in the West Bank between the Israeli Army and Palestinian extremists. This Wednesday they were registered so far three Palestinians killed by acts of violence in that region.

The latest victim was identified by the Ministry of Health of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) as Omar Muhammad Alyana 20-year-old Palestinian man, who was shot dead by Israeli security forces during a raid in the West Bank.

His death took place during clashes between residents of the West Bank village of Silwad and security forces, triggered by an Israeli army arrest operation.

According to Health, at least six other Palestinians were wounded by gunfire from Israeli troops.

This is the third violent incident of the day in the West Bank that results in the death of Palestinians, after the death today of a child under 14 during confrontations with the Army in the village of Husan and that of a 34 year old lawyer in the framework of an Israeli raid in the city of Nablus.

In the case of the deceased minor, the Israeli Army reported that his troops fired on a “Palestinian suspect who threw a Molotov cocktail” at themafter which clashes broke out with residents of the area.

The security forces have been operating for days in different parts of the West Bank, especially in the city of Jenin and its surroundings, the site of the origin of those responsible for two of the four attacks that have taken place in Israel in the last three weeks and that have caused the death of 14 people.

In recent days, these raids have triggered a series of armed clashes, several of which resulted in dead Palestinians, in addition to dozens of arrests.

Israeli police shot down a Palestinian who had just stabbed an agent in the southern coastal city of Ascalon on Tuesday morning, the security body reported.

“During an operation in Ashkelon, an agent identified a suspicious man and started an identity check. But the man pulled out a knife and attacked the officer who quickly responded by opening fire on him,” police said in a statement, adding that the Palestinian assailant was dead.

According to the Israeli police, the attacker was a resident of the West Bank city of Hebron.

The police officer involved in the attack was “slightly injured” and was taken to a local hospital.

On Sunday, Israeli forces had killed a Palestinian who stabbed a policeman in central Hebron, where some 1,000 Jewish settlers live under heavy military protection among 200,000 Palestinians.

On the same day, a Palestinian widow and mother of six approached Israeli soldiers near Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank in a “suspicious manner”, according to the army, and was shot dead by law enforcement.

This week the Secretary General of the United Nations, Anthony Guterresshowed “deep concern” about the escalation of violence and said that the international organization will continue to work with all parties to try to reduce tension.
