The Chechen strongman, Ramzan Kadyrovconfirmed on Monday the rumors that his son Adam had attacked a man who was detained for burning the Koran.
Kadyrov, who has ruled Chechnya with an iron fist since 2007 and oversaw extensive redevelopment and Islamization in the region, is accused by human rights activists of ordering kidnappings and extrajudicial executions.
“He beat him and did the right thing,” Kadyrov said on Telegram.
“I am proud of Adam’s actions...has developed adult ideals of honor and dignity in defense of his religion,” he said.
The Chechen leader posted a video purportedly showing his son, dressed in khaki, punching another man.
Russian human rights ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkovasaid last month that he raised the issue with his Chechen counterpart.
“I believe that anyone who violates any Holy Scripture, including those who burn it and offend tens of millions of citizens of our great country, must be severely punished,” Kadyrov said.
He compared blasphemers with “a diseased tumor in the body that needs to be cauterized.”
Kadyrov has made public his son’s involvement in the Ukrainian offensive, after announcing in March 2022 that He sent three of his sons (Akhmat, 16, Eli, 15, and Adam, 14) to the front.
Adam beat the detainee on August 16, when the 19-year-old Ukrainian was transferred to a detention center after being arrested for burning a Koran, as reported at the time by the Russian Ombudsman.
