Russia registered a new daily COVID-19 death record on Wednesday, with 1,247 deaths in the last day, reported the operational center to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
Most of the deaths occurred in Moscow (96), followed by Saint Petersburg (84) and the Krasnodar region (58).
Since the beginning of the pandemic 259,084 people have died in Russia from the coronavirus, although the official statistics on excess deaths in the same period almost double this figure.
According to the database Worldometer, Russia is currently the first country in the world – and in Europe – with the most daily deaths from coronavirus, ahead of Ukraine. It is also the first with more new cases per day.

Throughout the country, there were also identified 36,626 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.
Moscow, the focus of the pandemic in Russia, reported 2,966 new infections, ahead of the Saint Petersburg region (2,793).
In total the country accumulates 9,182,538 positives of coronavirus in its 85 regions.
Russia is the fifth country in the world after the United States, India, Brazil and the United Kingdom by the number of documented infections.

The Russian authorities attribute the sharp increase in new infections and deaths to the aggressiveness of the delta variant, the lack of strict compliance with sanitary rules by many Russians and, above all, the low vaccination rate in the country.
So far in the nation that was a pioneer in registering its own covid vaccine, Only 57,961,578 citizens have received the complete vaccination schedule, which places herd immunity at only 49% 80% to which the authorities aspire.
Faced with the worsening epidemic situation, the Government has sent to Parliament a bill to introduce the mandatory use of a health pass in public places and in transport.

The Government plans to implement the new law, which has yet to receive the approval of the parliamentarians, starting next February 1st.
Until then, the unvaccinated will be able to access “COVID-free” facilities and use other non-essential services with a negative PCR test.
