Emanuela Orlandi disappeared on June 22, 1983 at the age of 15

The family of Emanuela Orlandithe Vatican girl who disappeared 40 years ago, criticized this Wednesday an Italian media outlet that named an uncle as a suspect, accusing him of “abusing” his sister, and denounced alleged leaks from the Holy See.

“The first thing I thought was that it was a carrion. I didn’t expect them to sink so low”, denounced the girl’s brother, Pietro Orlandiat the Roman headquarters of the Foreign Press Association.

Orlandi was a young Vatican from 15 years that he disappeared June 22, 1983 when he attended his music classes in Rome, a case that has become one of the great mysteries of Italian historywhile his family continues with a tireless search.

At the end of last year the justice of the Vatican reopened investigation and has delivered its documentation to the Rome Prosecutor’s Officewhich also investigates this unknown.

However, last night the television news the7 announced an “exclusive”: of the documents handed over by the Vatican prosecutor, alessandro diddito his Roman colleagues emerges “a new hypothesis”with a uncle of the Orlandi family as a suspect.

Specifically, according to this information, Emanuela’s uncle, Mario Meneguzzinow deceased, would have “sexually molested” the sister of the disappeared woman, Natalina Orlandia piece of information that the Vatican prosecutor obtained from a letter from the latter’s confessor priest.

natalinaaccompanied by the family lawyer Laura Sgro, He flatly denied that hypothesis. before the foreign press and explained that “There was no sexual abuse” but “simple verbal courtships”.

“In 1978 we worked together and my uncle made some simple verbal courtships, like small gifts, but when he understood that he had no chance he stopped. I only told my boyfriend Andrea, today my husband, and my father confessor,” said Natalina.

The sister of the missing girl denounced this “leak” for the damage caused to his aunt, Meneguzzi’s widow, and to his cousins.

Natalina recalled that she was received by the cardinal Angelo Beciuthen number 2 of the Vatican Secretariat of State and today disgraced by a financial scandal, and that this warned him that if they revealed his files, his confession would also come to light.

Brother Orlandi, visibly angry, first regretted that it was leaked “a secret of confession”also clarified that, the day Emanuela disappeared, her uncle was in favor of vacation “away” and then questioned the intent of this information leak.

“They point the finger at my uncle but Why don’t they go against these three or four pedophile cardinals?”, he lamented, to later accuse the Vatican of blowing up an investigative commission in the Italian Parliament.

“I think the Vatican is trying not to assume its responsibility and hand it over to other people (…) They do not want the commission because it would come out of everything”, said Pietro Orlandi, to later ask the pope to “take action on the matter”.

The disappearance, recently collected in the Netflix documentary Vatican Girl”, was in the past linked with countless theories, from a possible involvement with the attack against John Paul II in 1981 in Saint Peter’s Square at the hands of the Turkish terrorist Ali Agkasuch as a network of pedophiles or the magliana bandthe Roman mafia of the 70s and 80s.
