Russia denounced on Wednesday a massive drone strike against the Belgorod regionon the border with Ukraine, in which an armed incursion was launched on Monday by a detachment of Russian saboteurs who allegedly entered from Ukrainian territory.
“The night was restless. There were a large number of drone strikes. The anti-aircraft defense took care of most of them”, stated the governor of Belgorod, Viacheslav Gladkov, on his Telegram channel.
According to Gladkov, the attack produced damage to cars, some houses and administrative buildings. “The most important thing is that no victims”, stressed the governor.
On Monday a detachment of more than 70 saboteurs, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, launched an armed raid using armored vehicles in the Belgorod region.
The action was taken over by groups of Russians fighting on the side of kyiv: the Russian Volunteer Corps and the Freedom for Russia Legion.
At least two Russian soldiers were killed and four others wounded in the attack, according to the Russian daily. Kommersant. The casualties on the Russian side occurred in a military garrison (Belgorod-22) located 10 kilometers from the border and where three projectiles fired from Uragán launchers fell.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday that all Russian saboteurs had been annihilated. “The nationalist armed groups were surrounded and eliminated. More than seventy Ukrainian terrorists have been liquidated,” Defense spokesman Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov said.
The soldier stressed that part of the attackers were expelled to Ukraine, where the Russian artillery continued to attack them “until their total elimination.” Four armored vehicles and five pickup trucks were also destroyed.
For its part, the group denied the Russian version on Telegram. “We do not know which columns Mr. Konashenkov (spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry) annihilated, but the Russian Volunteer Corps has no casualties,” they said.
Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar said in an interview broadcast last night that Russia was faced with the dilemma of regrouping its forces to suppress the armed incursion of anti-Putin Russian volunteers in Belgorod or continuing to send “all its forces” to the fronts of Ukraine.
“The Russians are faced with the question of regrouping their forces because they currently need it to calm the situation in the Belgorod region,” Malyar said in an interview with Ukrainska Pravda. “And right now they have sent all their forces to the Ukrainian fronts,” Malyar added.
The deputy minister concluded that the decision “now depends on them.”
