The founder of wagner group, Yevgeny Prigozhindeclared this Friday that it is unlikely than the city of Bakhmut fell into the hands of his mercenary forces in the next two daysas fighting rages around Ukrainian soldiers entrenched in a makeshift “fortress” south of the city.
The Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, known in Russia by its Soviet-era name, Artyomovskis in ruins after months of heavy fighting between the Ukrainian and Russian forces, who call it the “meat mincer”.
“Bakhmut has not yet been taken”, Prigozhin said in a voicemail posted on Telegram. “It is unlikely that Bakhmut will be taken either tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.”
“That’s why I ask you (…) a great favor: let us finish our work”Prigozhin added.
“There is a neighborhood known as the ‘Plane‘ – it’s like a strength impregnable of a bed of multi-story buildings in southwestern Bakhmut, where incredibly heavy battles are taking place”.
Prigozhin insisted on hold Russia’s military command accountable of the difficulties to fully capture the city, which according to him the Wagnerite units control 98% after almost ten months of battle.
“For those who are interested in details and to put an end to speculation, the 4th and 74th brigades (of Russian troops), who shit on the flanks and key heights, allowed the Ukrainian Armed Forces to advance from Chasiv Yar and Konstantinovka in two directions, north and south of Ivanivske,” Prigozhin explained.
Due to that circumstance, he added, in Bakhmut there is a “practically frontal” crash.

“We advance from west to east. The enemy adds any number of reserves, armored vehicles and weapons, everything he wants to face us. And that is why progress is very difficult, ”he stressed.
Russia has been trying to capture Bakhmut since last summer, in the longest and bloodiest battle of the war, but the Ukrainian defenders have held out. If Russia were to take the city, it would provide a springboard to advance on two larger cities that it has long coveted in the Donetsk region: Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.
