The Iranian regime executed three men and the UN denounced the high number of people who are subjected to the death penalty

The regime of Iran executed this Wednesday three convicted of drug traffickingreported the judiciary, one day after the UN notice that the country registers a number “terribly” high of people to whom the capital punishment.

“This morning the death sentence of three members of the gang was carried out. Panjakthe main cocaine distribution cartel,” reported the information agency of the judicial authority, Mizan Online.

Mizan reported that six members of the gang were arrested in 2014.

“At the time of the arrest, a kilogram of cocaine, opium and methamphetamine was seized from the members of this gang,” added the judiciary.

Iran executes more people a year than any other country, with the exception of China.according to human rights groups, including the organization International Amnesty.

On Monday, two men were executed by hanging in Iran for having burned a Koran and insulted the prophet Muhammad.

On Tuesday, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turkdenounced the “terribly” high number of executed in the country so far this year, an average of more than 10 per week.

In so far this year, at least 210 people were executed in Iranthe majority for drug-related crimes, according to a balance that adds the sentences applied this Wednesday to the figures published on Tuesday by the UN.

In its report on Tuesday, the UN said the total figure could be higher and Türk called the balance “abominable.”

In 2022, the number of people executed increased by 75% compared to the previous year, the NGOs reported in April Iran Human Rights (IHR), headquartered in Norway, and Ensemble against the Peine de Mort (ECPM), in France.

At least 582 people were executed in the Islamic Republic in 2022, a record since 2015, up from 333 in 2021, the organizations said.
