The boss of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhintoday threatened to withdraw its units from the Ukrainian city of Bakhmutin the eastern region of Donetskdue to a lack of ammunition and the large number of casualties in their ranks.
In a video posted on his Telegram, Prigozhin declared “on behalf of Wagner’s fighters and their command that on May 10, 2023 we will be obliged to hand over the positions in the city of Bakhmut to the units of the Ministry of Defense and to relocate the combatants in the rear to lick our wounds”.
“I withdraw the units of the Wagner Group from Bakhmut because with the lack of ammunition they are condemned to a useless death”, he stressed, addressing “the chief of the General Staff, Valery GerasimovDefense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Commander-in-Chief, Vladimir Putinand to the people of Russia.”
Prigozhin assured that the mercenaries only have 10% of the ammunition they need.
“I ask the chief of the Army General Staff to authorize the transfer of the positions that Wagner occupies in the town of Bakhmut to units of the Russian Army and communicate the date on which they will relieve us in these positions,” added the chief of Wagner.
Prigozhin assured that he is prepared to receive criticism for his decision.
“There will be clever people who say that they should stay longer in Bakhmut. But those who want to criticize something to come to Bakhmut, welcome”, he added and stressed that his fighters have been on this front for nine months now.
He stressed that, today, of the 45 square kilometers that the city occupies, 2.5 square kilometers remain to be conquered.
“By not giving us ammunition you are not depriving us of victory, you are depriving Russia of victory,” he proclaimed.

“We should take Bakhmut by May 9 (USSR Victory Day over Nazi Germany), but since May 1 the military bureaucrats prevent us from accessing almost all kinds of artillery shells,” he added.
However, he assured that after “licking their wounds” the paramilitary group will be willing to “defend the Homeland again.”
“The Russian people can count on us,” he concluded.
Already this morning Prigozhin published a video in which he lashes out with insults that were censored with beeps by his team to Shoigu and Gerasimovand shows a row of corpses of Wagnerites lying on the ground.
He claimed that casualties would be five times less if Wagner’s units received the proper amount of ammunition.
Previously, Prigozhin had already denounced that his units lose about 100 men in Bakhmut every day due to lack of ammunition.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskovrefused in his daily press conference to comment on the threat from Wagner’s boss and referred it to the Ministry of Defense.
