The president of the United States House of Representativesthe republican kevin mccarthymeets this Wednesday in California with the president of taiwan, Tsai Ing-wenamid warnings of Chinawhich demands that the island not be given the same treatment as any independent nation.
The legislator, representative of California and leader of the Lower House since last January, had advanced in the boreal summer that in case of reaching that position he intended to visit Taiwan, but finally the meeting will take place in the United States.
Tsai’s passage through US territory is part of a trip to Central America.
The president arrived on March 30 at NYwhere he stayed for two days before leaving for Guatemala and Belize, two of the thirteen diplomatic allies that Taiwan has. The president arrived in Los Angeles on Tuesday night and she is scheduled to return to Taipei on Friday.

Taiwan has so far not reported no unusual chinese military move before the McCarthy meeting.
Chinese state media said on Wednesday that a ship operated by the Maritime Safety Administration of Fujian Province, located off Taiwan, was conducting a patrol in the central and northern parts of the Taiwan Strait, without giving details.
In August 2022, the visit to Taiwan of the then Speaker of the US House of Representatives, the Democrat Nancy Pelosihad already angered Beijing, which branded it a “deplorable betrayal” and carried out unprecedented military maneuvers in the Taiwan Strait.
The United States reminded China last Thursday that it was the seventh time Tsai was in the country and insisted that his scale was something “routine” that should not lead to a crisis.

This same Monday, Beijing reiterated its opposition to the imminent meeting between McCarthy and the Taiwanese leader.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman mao ningstated that his country “strongly opposes any form of official contact between the US and Taiwanese authorities” and warned that China “will take firm measures to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
China claims sovereignty over Taiwan, which it views as a rogue province since Kuomintang nationalists withdrew there in 1949 after losing the civil war against the communists.
The United States established diplomatic relations with Beijing in 1979 under the principle of recognizing “one China”but has maintained close unofficial relations with Taiwan, which often leads to tensions with the Chinese regime.
