Guatemalan President, Alejandro Giammatteiarrived this Monday at taiwan on an official visit that has been criticized for Chinawhich considers it “contrary to the global trend.”

In a message on his Twitter account, President Giammattei expressed his gratitude for “initiating this great visit”, and has considered Taiwan his “partner, ally and friend”.

“Above all, a brotherly people that fights for its sovereignty and its freedom, which Guatemala accompanies with all the strength, and from where we will send a message to the world about what should be respect for countries, sovereignty and above all, achieve respect for the independence of peoples,” he said through a video on their social networks.

Upon arrival at Taipei met with Taiwan’s foreign minister Joseph Wuand with the ambassador of the Asian country in Guatemala, to begin a visit in which, according to a government statement, they seek to “strengthen the ties of bilateral cooperation, investment and friendship between both nations.”

Last week, the Chinese regime criticized the trip, which it considered would imply a rebuff to the “aspirations” of the Guatemalan population for the “selfish interests” of its leaders.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin, He stated at a press conference that there are already 182 countries with relations with Beijing, which “demonstrates that the principle of ‘one China has the overwhelming support of the international community.”

Instead, according to Wang, Taiwan seeks “expand its ‘international space’” at the cost of entering “a blind alley”, given the “consensus” that the theses defended from Beijing would generate.

Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing Wenvisited Guatemala at the beginning of April, a decision again criticized by the Asian giant that tries to tilt the foreign policy of the Central American countries away from Taiwan.

Wen’s trip sparked a wave of tensions with the Xi Jinping regime over the Asian giant’s claim to the island.

Beijing’s anger was unleashed when, on her return from the tour of Central America, the Taiwanese president held a meeting with the speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy.

After the meeting, China began a new day of siege against the island by conducting military exercises with live fire and simulations of advancing on Taiwan.
