Columbia University announced Monday the winners and finalists of the Pulitzer Prizes 2023awarded on the recommendation of the Pulitzer Prize Board, where three Ukrainian journalists, Mstyslav Chernov, Evgeniy Maloletka and Vasilisa Stepanenkohave won the decoration for the coverage of the war in Ukraine from Mariupol for the news agency PA. Also, the journalist lory hinnant has been recognized with the same award.
Finalists in the Journalism (Public Service) category were the Austin American-Statesman, in collaboration with USA Today Network The Washington Post.
The four journalists covered the siege of Mariupol during the Russian invasion of Ukraine to PA. Maloletka, in particular, took a photograph of a woman injured as a result of the bombing at the maternity hospital that she won World Press Photo of the Year.

Chernov is also a Ukrainian photojournalist, filmmaker, war correspondent and novelist known for his coverage of the Dignity Revolution or the War in Donbas.
For her part, Vasilisa Stepanenko has also been the winner of the ICFJ Award, the George Polk Award and the Royal Television Society Award for her work as a video producer.
The three Ukrainian reporters were the last international journalists on the ground who documented the situation in Mariupol when the Russian forces approached the city.
In addition, with the journalist also from PALori Hinnant, the team transferred the reality captured by its objectives of the war in Ukraine to an international audience, according to the Center for Journalistic Ethics on its website.
