The regimes of Russia and Iran deepen their military cooperation: Tehran received several planes from Moscow

Russia and Irantwo old allies and partners in sanctions by the international community, continue to strengthen their ties, this time, in military matters.

The Persian regime received, in the last hours, various Moscow training aircraft, as part of the “arms contracts of the Islamic Republic with the Russian Federation”. It is currently unknown if there will be more, although recent statements by the United Aircraft Corporation suggest that it is a “compliance with obligations according to the schedule” and that “aircraft are being produced from the following batches scheduled for delivery this year”.

It is a series of Yak-130 that are added to the ships that already operate in the air base of Shahid Babei, in Isfahan.

Images disseminated on social networks show one of these planes maneuvering in Iranian territory to the hangar that was designated for it.

Thanks to these incorporations, local media indicated that the Tehran air force will be able to “improve their training and combat ability” and train their pilots in handling fourth and fifth generation fighterslike the Sukhoi Su-57.

The Yak-130 is a two-seat subsonic light combat aircraft, developed by the Russian companies Yakovlev and Aermacchi, since 2011. It is used by the air forces of Algeria, Vietnam, bangladesh, belarus, Myanmar and Syria.

Thanks to its size, it can carry out attack and reconnaissance maneuvers, as well as load guided or unguided weapons, auxiliary fuel tanks and electronic pods of up to 3,000 kilograms.

This recent dispatch from Moscow to its Persian ally demonstrates that, despite the efforts of the international community, the regimes continue to grow closer.

Especially when it comes to military equipment, the two countries have a long history of exchanges. Among them are the unmanned aircraft -or drones- that Tehran provided to the Kremlin for its offensives on Ukraine.

The shahed-186 They caught everyone’s attention back in July 2022 when they began to be seen on Ukrainian soil. Back then, the Russian attacks with these small ships were constant, very precise and -almost entirely- successful.

This unleashed dozens of investigations that ended up confirming the obvious: the theocratic regime supplies Vladimir Putin with this and a variety of other weapons such as rockets, bullets, tank armor, and artillery pieces.

International security officials familiar with the issue assured that “the connection is much bigger than just drones” and that it responds to Russia’s strong concern about the lack of weapons it faces after more than a year and a half of war.

The Persian regime tried to distance itself from these deliveries, although with a narrative that generated more mistrust than certainty.

At first, the Iranian authorities flatly denied the supply but, some time later, when it became clear that the drones flying over Ukraine had their flag, they ended up accepting it but clarifying that they were transactions prior to the start of the war.

In any case, the volume of unmanned aircraft found on occupied ground showed that they are constant shipments and not something that happened months ago.

However, Iran is also determined to begin its path towards military independence, albeit in the long term.

The air force currently has Russian MIG and Sukhoi fighter jets dating from the soviet era, American F-4 and F-5 fighters before the Islamic revolution, and some chinese planes.

That is why, in March, the Ministry of Defense announced the start-up of an assembly line for the manufacture of aircraft yasin, also capable of attacks. These are ships equipped with an ejection seat, engine and landing gear, all self-made.
