The UN indicated this Wednesday that more than 3 billion dollars for the humanitarian aid and assistance to refugees from the conflict in Sudan and believes that a million people will flee the country.
Assistance needs for this northeast African country have increased since the humanitarian situation worsened due to the conflict that began in mid-April.
“At the moment, there are 25 million people, which is more than half the population of Sudan, who need humanitarian aid and protection”, said Ramesh Rajasingham, director of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
Fighting broke out on April 15 between the head of the army, Abdel Fattah al-Burhanand a rival general, Mohamed Hamdan Daglowho heads the paramilitaries of the Rapid Support Forces (FAR).

It is estimated that about 1,000 people have diedthe majority in the capital, Khartoumits surroundings and in the state of West Darfuraccording to medical sources.
The conflict aggravated a humanitarian crisis the country was already suffering, where before the war one in three people depended on humanitarian aid.
According to an update to the plan for Sudan, made after the outbreak of fighting, the UN claims that only for humanitarian aid will need 2,600 million dollars, compared to the $1.75 billion the organization projected as a budget late last year.
Meanwhile, the agency UN for refugees (UNHCR) calculates that it will require 470.4 million dollars for refugees fleeing the conflict.
This body estimates that 1.1 million people will flee Sudan this year.

“So far, the crisis, which just started a month ago, has led to massive flows of some 220,000 refugees and returnees to neighboring countries, who have sought safety in Chad, South Sudan, Egypt, the Central African Republic and Ethiopia” Raouf Mezou, UNHCR’s deputy chief of operations, told reporters.
In addition, of the people who fled the country, more than 700,000 were displaced by fighting to other areas of Sudan.
“Countless people remain trapped and terrified inside Sudan, innocent victims of this indiscriminate fighting.Mezu said.
“Those who have fled across the country’s many borders are devastated, leaving loved ones behind or losing loved ones and finding themselves in places where access is extremely difficult and resources are minimal,” he added.
