The United States considered this Thursday that the new iranian missilewhich has a range of 2,000 kilometers and a warhead of 1,500 kilos, it presents a “serious threat” to regional and international security.
“Iran’s development and proliferation of ballistic missiles poses a serious threat to regional and international security and remains a significant challenge” to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), he said at his daily press conference. US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.
The new Iranian weapons were presented this Thursday to commemorate the victory in Khorramshahr, the Iranian border city conquered by Iraq at the beginning of the war that both countries waged between 1980 and 1988, and which Persian troops reconquered in 1982, now 41 years ago.
Miller criticized that despite the restrictions that the United Nations Security Council has imposed on activities related to Iranian missiles, Iran continues to seek a range of missile technology from foreign suppliers and conduct tests.
He stressed, however, that the United States continues to think “that diplomacy is the best way” to guarantee and verify that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons, but not before making it clear that they do not plan to give details in this regard.
The authorities of the Iranian regime showed the new model of its ballistic missile Khorramshahr-4 to the press at an event in Tehran, where the projectile was displayed in a launcher attached to a truck. Defense Minister General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani said that required little setup time before launch.
State television showed a test of the new weapons in an undated video, in which the missile is seen taking off and flying over a desert area.
“One of the outstanding features of this missile is its ability to evade radar detection and penetrate enemy air defense systems, thanks to its low radar signature”, the general told reporters. “This missile has the ability to use multiple warheads for different missions.”
The Khorramshahr-4 has the heaviest loadout in Iran’s ballistic missile fleet, which analysts say may be designed to keep the weapon below the 2,000km range limit imposed by the country’s supreme leader. This makes it possible to reach most of the Middle East, but not Western Europe.

Regional tensions were likely to play a role in Iran’s presentation on Thursday. A miniature of the Dome of the Rock was seen next to the mobile launch system in the Al Aqsa Mosque complex in Jerusalem.a disputed place of worship sacred to Jews and Muslims, and which Jews call the Temple Mount.
Iran views Israel as its arch-enemy and arms anti-Israel militant groups in the Palestinian territories and surrounding countries. Tensions between the two countries are considerable, especially as Iran enriches uranium closer to weapons-grade levels. The Khorramshahr would have the range to reach Israel.
However, it was not clear why the projectile had been given the number Khorramshahr-4, as only two other variants of the missile are publicly known. It is based on the North Korean Musudan ballistic missile.
Iranian ballistic missiles are a source of concern for the United States, Europe and some Middle Eastern countries, although Tehran authorities say they only have a defensive and deterrent role.
